There is really no adequate way to describe the feeling of welcoming your child into the world. It doesn’t matter if it’s your first child or any number of additional children, it is always a miracle and special beyond compare. All the love that went into creating and growing this child that has been inside you over the past year culminates to the point you feel you’ll burst. There’s an immense sense of relief and gratitude that your child has arrived and is healthy. There are the moments of pure bliss and relaxation cuddling your precious sleeping child, interspersed with periods of complete exhaustion from what you’ve gone through to bring this baby into the world (and what you continue to go through feeding, changing and appeasing him). You’re at the mercy of hormones, emotions and physical pains you never knew (or may have forgotten if you’ve been through it before and only remember the “good stuff”).
All of this floods you in the first 48 hours after your baby is born. It may all be a blur to you later on, which is one reason I love to take “Fresh 48” photos in the hospital within the first day or two after birth. Gorgeous moments filled with love. It’s an absolutely beautiful thing to witness and capture!
