A little behind on blogging a number of sessions. This one was from months ago….when the weather was so nice. I’m a bipolar blogger. I try to blog all sessions eventually….but I admit, many get fall into the abyss of my computer hard drive. Not because I don’t love them…I do!! I love every session I do, but because I am one person…balancing a business….a life…yes, I have a life outside of photography…hehe…and now motherhood, which is amazing, but has taken half of my brain…ha! So, maybe one day I will be an amazing blogger, but for now…I just do the best I can to keep up. 😉
This family means the world to me. Years ago when I began my professional photography journey, the idea was never to have this full out photography business really….there is no question, I am thrilled beyond measure where my photography is now…I would not have it any other way….make no mistake in that! But in my earliest vision was that I would only photograph adoptive families and also photograph the births of babies. I wanted to capture families being formed, either through adoption or birth. So like most of of starting something new, I sought out my clients instead of my clients seeking me because I needed to practice and learn before officialy launching my business.
I was introduced to this momma by my own momma, as she was, at the time, expecting her 4th child and I needed a birth to photograph. Little did I know that because of this one birth I was able to photograph, that gave me the confidence to launch my official birth photography business, would lead to a life changing event for me nearly four years later. Okay, hang in here with me and let me explain. You see, this momma was planning to deliver her baby at home with a midwife, as she had with the two pervious children. I admit, only a few month prior, I didn’t even know what a midwife was and thought it something from only biblical times. Even though my husband and I were not even contemplating a baby yet, I was so fascinated by this idea that there was this sub culture of sorts that were giving birth in the privacy of their own home, without medical interventions. So one night during what ended up being a false alarm labor call for this momma, I had the privilege to have hours long conversations with this momma and her midwife, Alice Brayer. We talked about all things birth including why this mom had decided to birth babies at home, etc. This momma did indeed end up about a week later having the most wonderful home birth of her daughter, Sunshine and after that experience, I knew that I wanted to learn more (as much a I could) about home birth. So began several years of reading thousands of articles and stories, watching I can’t even tell you how many videos….many good and some bad, of birth and women who had birthed at home. I became a little obsessed you might say. But one thing I knew is that if the day ever came that I would be given the gift to be ‘with child’ my plan A was going to be a home birth.
Then fast forward a few years and I became pregnant with our son. Of course, I hired Alice Brayer and we had our son at home in June. I can’t have imagined it any other way. This family family not only played an integral part in me having the best birth I can imagine and were also there with me in the earliest days of me launching my business….and for that I am forever grateful for them being placed in my path.
They are truly one of the most special families you will ever know….their joy and kindness surppassing most. Thank you guys for having me photograph your family again! Love you!
