I try to go outside my comfort zone at least for a few photos at each session. Most often, I leave my comfort zone just on a whim….it is rarely planned. I just see it and think…hmmmm….that will be cool and a little different. And I get that often times being ‘different’ is really just being different for me because as with this photo…there are many dark shadow…faces are not really lit too much…it’s a bit more of a dramatic look…a little more edgy, I would say. I just happened to be standing in the right place at the moment. The original plan was to switch to my 50mm lens to get a more close up of the dad tossing up his daughter, but instead, I just peaked through my 28mm lens and decided to keep it a more wide shot and to not blow out the background to expose faces, (which is what I prefer to do and do a lot) instead, I would underexpose just a bit in order to get this look. I really loved the look more than I expected and I will most certainly do more of (when the right opportunity presents itself) in the future. What do you think?
