Becoming a big brother or sister is a very exciting thing….maybe if you are like 10. But when you are two and a half, it takes you a while to warm up to this new little person who is consuming much of what used to be ‘your’ time with mom and dad. Now all that attention that used to be only for you must now be shared and that is not so fun and exciting…at least not at first. I’m not sure any amount of preparation can really prepare a child for such a change. It’s not until the new arrival comes home that the reality hits and it can be very challenging for a while until the older sibling adjust. And this is totally normal. But more often than not…eventually with a little (or a lot) of patience…the older sibling will eventually come around and begin to actually find common ground with their new brother or sister. So was just the case when I went to photograph this wonderful family who I’ve had the privilege of getting to know this last year. Big sis was not having much…well, anything (ha!) to do with little brother. We just wanted to get a few shots of them together. Rest assured all sorts of patience along with some bribery proved unsuccessful. And then, in a moment when most would have not even been paying much mind….one moment when we had pretty much concluded that we would not get any pics of the two children together….one moment….which was about a mere 60 seconds, there was a small glimmer of sisterly love that occurred. The lighting may not have been perfect and maybe there were not any big smiles or anyone looking at the camera…but I captured the most beautiful moment and for that I am so grateful. Sweet big sister touching her new sibling so tenderly. Something so simple, yet so endearing. These are the photographs I so enjoy taking and I know will be cherished for years and years to come. <3
I am part of a little photographer group called 10 on 10 where we share 10 images (I always tend to have a few more than that-ha!) that are memorable to us. Please follow the circle to the next blog, leave a comment and show us all some LOVE!!
