Sometimes cute is fun.  This sort of thing I will do on occasion.  I’m not a ‘prop’ photographer, but this client is a regular and I’m not for sure if you can consider a pumpkin a prop.  Or maybe it really is.  By definition, a prop is a portable object other than furniture or costumes used on the set of a play or movie.  One can assume this applies to a photograph, too.  So okay…I guess this is indeed a prop.  Well, if you have been around the blog lately, you will know that I am very anti props in photos.  I think they are very distracting and frankly, I don’t like all the fuss.  I want to keep the photographs simple and focused on the subject or subjects.  However, for this momma, who already had pumpkins outside for decor and I knew I could still keep the image clean and classic…even with the pumpkin.  So, in this case, I agreed that it could be done very tastefully and I honored the client’s request.  I reserve the right to say yes or no to a prop on occasion…99% of the time I will not allow…but like I said, if I can do it well, then I will honor the request.  But please discuss with me prior to our session.  I don’t want you buying a bunch of stuff, it not getting used and you being disappointed.  That is the very last thing I would ever want, but I am also well past the days when I compromise my style of photography just for the sake of a photo.  That is the great thing about photography.  There is a photographer for you.  That may or may not be me.  You have to find a photographer whose portfolio reflects the types of images you really like AND would want for your family.  Then hire them! 🙂
