When going into a newborn photo shoot, a photographer never really knows what to expect. Of course, with a newborn, no one (not even the baby’s parents) can REALLY know what to expect! Will he or she be sleepy, wriggly, fussy? Will there be a sweet smile, followed by a red face, grunting and a poop-splosion that manages to get all over EVERYTHING? Or perhaps a puke-nami after a needed nursing break? There’s just no way to know! If there were a “What to Expect…” book on photographing newborns, it would pretty much be a long list of things that could go wrong or right, but can never really be anticipated and certainly can’t be controlled. It is amazing how someone so small, new and helpless can keep so many adults on their toes and anxious for what will happen next!
This adorable little fella below was not in the mood for sleepy pictures (so no sleep smiles), but he sure gave us some great material while he was wide awake! I love the cheeky little half-smile, tongue action and intense stares! Bottom line: no matter what you expect, whatever your newborn does for his or her newborn portraits will be perfect (especially to you) because he or she is the most perfect little being you will ever know!
