These days, I love Creating Beautiful Houston Family Photos in Unique Light. For many years it was common family photographer practice to photograph my clients in only particular time slots. If someone needed a later morning photo session or an earlier evening one, that was something I would not accommodate. Over the years, it is not something I’m as strict about anymore. Ultimately, with family photography, child and parents’ moods are more important to me than the light.
This session, the light conditions were not what I had anticipated. The photo location was one I’d shot at many times over, but only in the evenings. For this family’s photos, we met in the morning. The sunrise was much stronger than I had anticipated this day. However, the look and feel of the images were very cool and unique. While the overall edit of these photographs was quite different for me, I love them very much!

Need more photo session time options?
Maybe you require a photographer near you who can be a little more flexible with time availability. If so, I would love to connect with you to make that possible. Hiring a photographer is likely already stressful enough. If your child is in their best mood for photos at 9 am or 10 am, let’s accommodate that! For me, this most often means being more strategic in the selection of location. No big deal!
As one can imagine, after years of taking photos of clients and now my own family, it’s fun to break outside your norm sometimes. It is always good to embrace a unique challenge too. Thankfully, I work well under such pressures. When presented with this unexpected lighting situation, I did what I always do…my very best! And with a smile on my face because things always turn out amazing. While planning is good, and I strive to be as prepared as possible, part of that means being able to roll with any surprises.
It’s also true when it comes to children and their mood for photos. There have been some of the best-made plans that did not pan out as such—for example, scheduling when a child would be their best, only to arrive at the session having an off day. These such situations are no cause for concern. We will always get the shots because, well…I’m a pro. Google me. Ha!
