Houston Underwater Kids Photographer: newborn, baby, child photography in Houston, The Heights, The Woodlands

I’m a wee bit late posting so many sessions.  What’s new? ha!  It’s actually pretty fun when I get to look at sessions from the not to distant past.  I get to experience them like they are new again.  It’s likely similar to how my clients feel when they see their images over the course of time.  It makes me think of our son and now I can put certain toys away for a while, then bring them back out months later and how excited he is for them as if they are brand new.  You have likely experienced this with your kids too.  <3

This is one of my favorite clients.  Maybe it’s because I’ve know her and her wonderful parents since she was only a couple weeks old. How the time flies.  She is so big now and full of so much personality and sweetness! She’s also a little fish in the water.  It was so exciting to see her underwater.  She is so cute!! Love this gal!

Our little guy finally put his head under…I ran inside to grab my camera…which contrary to what you may think I really don’t get my camera out often enough outside of work. Maybe because by the time I was a mom…my business was pretty established and ‘work’ and ‘play’ we’re so very separate things. Like my cousin who was a pro chef for years who had said he never cooked at home…yep, I get it now. But anyways…occasionally will go against my laziness and grab my big camera…and so glad I did because this was over a week ago and in perfect two year old form…he’s not done it again. So happy I caught him going under a couple of times on this particular day…for these few minutes that it lasted.

It has been awhile since I’ve spotlighted some gorgeous underwater maternity photos!  With (hopefully) beautiful weather here and Spring Break starting pretty much NOW, I figured this was the perfect time to break out some incredible images from an awesome session.  In most of my posts, I use a collage to display session photos, but these are so unique that I want to showcase them individually.  You won’t find many photographers in our area doing underwater maternity photos, but I absolutely LOVE them!  There are just so many interesting angles and ways of capturing light, colors and the maternal form underwater!  See for yourself!

Although it is officially fall now (though you wouldn’t know it by the temperatures that still get into the 90s some days!), I just had to share some of these amazing underwater maternity shots!  If you know much (or even a little) about me, you’re probably aware that I adore maternity photos as well as underwater photography.  The combination of the two is just perfection!  There aren’t sufficient words for me to describe how beautiful I think an expectant mamma looks being photographed underwater.  There’s something about one who is giving life being surrounded by life-giving water…it’s like poetic photography.  To think of her child inside her being completely surrounded and sustained by her body’s water while she is immersed in water as well…it’s just so gorgeous and symbolic!

This lovely mamma was the perfect model for underwater maternity photography!  She looks so effortless, weightless and graceful in all of her shots…a feat not so easily accomplished when so very pregnant (or even when not pregnant for many!).  I loved this photo shoot and the resulting pictures so much!

I never really know what kind of pictures I’m going to get when doing underwater photography of children.  I think they’re all pretty fantastic, as they capture the fun of jumping into a pool, the carefree nature of youth and the unique beauty of underwater perspective, but there is no clear way to “direct” while underwater and usually the “poses” are just fun and unplanned.  In most cases, arms and legs are splayed in whatever fashion my young clients can manage at the time.  I love seeing what wacky contortions they come up with!

The beautiful little girl in the pictures below, however, was probably the most graceful child I’ve ever photographed underwater and appeared to be doing her own water ballet!  Her flexibility and pointed toes are just perfection!  We may have a future Olympic synchronized swimmer in our midst!  I think she is just fabulous and hope you enjoy these shots as much as I do!

(Thanks to Wikipedia, I now know that at the turn of the 20th century, synchronized swimming was known as “water ballet”.  The sport simultaneously developed in Canada and Germany, with the first competition held in Berlin in 1891.  Not only a sport, it was also often a popular addition to Music Hall evenings.  In some of London and Glasgow’s larger variety theaters there were on-stage water tanks for the purpose!)
