Okay…I am talking to all you ladies here! This post is just for you.
It’s one thing to have photographs taken with your children…trust me, I am ALL ABOUT making sure you having photographs with your children. I feel it is so very important to leave your children with memories captured WITH them as many times in their life as possible. It is part of the legacy and gift to them when you are gone.
But what about a photography session just for you and you alone! I know what you are thinking. You are saying, ‘Amy Leigh, are you nuts? Why would I spend money for professional photographs of myself?” And my question back to you would be, “WHY NOT?”
Forget about the extra 10 pounds or 50 pounds for that matter that you want to lose. Forget about how you don’t feel as good about yourself these days. Forget about how getting photos of yourself seems sort of vain.
I think every grown woman owes it to herself to have nice photographs taken of themselves at least once. Which leads me to the beautiful Ms. Jen who I met through a mutual friend a few years back. Jen is a fun, light hearted girl with an extraordinary story in which one of life’s biggest challeges became her greatest inspiration and strengths. Coming from a very creative family, Jen always had an eye for design and anything creative. But it was one specific day with her eldest son that would really set the stage for the artist she would become.
Her eldest son, who is autistic, was stung by a bee on his forehead. For months, her son would not leave the house. It was Spring and the family was, at the time, living in Massachusetts where the bugs population that year was very high outside and all those bugs were simply too frightening to Jen’s son. One might say they were ‘bugged in’ instead of snowed in. HA! Well, during that time, Jen needed to get really creative on how to spend those days cooped up indoors. She began cutting out paper bugs with a variety of colored construction paper. Then she would then put them in a book and slowly share with her child these bug cut outs and explaining to him that not all bugs are bad. And not all bug will sting or bite. In time, the bug book was not just a book, but a piece of art. Of course, eventually, Jen’s son finally overcame his bug fear, but then by this point, some of Jen’s friends had enlisted her to make a variety of cut out art for them. Well, that was some time ago.
Today, Jen has a successful art studio where she creates the most fabulous and creative pieces. Be sure to check out her site Colorfly Studio. Sure, her journey is certainly no bed of roses, but Jen’s deeply rooted faith keeps her moving forward.
In celebration of couragous woman who have shined bright a mist the storms of life, I want showcase other women in the Houston, Texas area. So, ladies, if you would like to be featured on my blog and are brave enough to let me photograph you by yourself, please email me. I would love to hear your story and get to know you better.
For now I leave you with this small collage I did of Jen’s photos I took. What do you think? For her first time behind the camera by her lonesome, I think she looks fabulous!
