  • Hi. I'm Amy...a photographer here in Houston, Texas. Families, babies and children are what make my heart sing. I like to think I catch the divine in the ordinary using natural light and everyday settings. My style is pretty simple. It’s a dab of traditional (for my youngest clients) mixed with modern lifestyle portraiture, indoors and out. Candid shots are my favorite. I want to capture a child’s spirit and a family's personality, even if that's not traditional smiles. My #1 goal...to photograph families in real life, not something that was imagined or 'created'...to not just tell a story or get a certain 'shot', but to tell your story though a collection of photographs, capturing all the joy that fills your soul. The greatest satisfaction for me, is knowing when you look at these photographs years from now, they will radiate of all the splendor that your children have brought to your life and will offer an heirloom of memories for generations to come. If you want photographs that are a little different and are not afraid to let lose a little with your kids, then I most certainly am the photographer for you! Just click that little contact tab above and let's book your session. ;-)

One of my favorite moments in a newborn session is when that sweet, sleeping child gives a pure, perfect smile!  It doesn’t happen during every session (don’t worry, we still get gorgeous newborn shots!), but in some sessions it happens more than once, which was the case with the photos you’ll see below.  I love the anticipation leading up to those sleep smiles!  We are all just watching, waiting quietly to see what this precious new life will do, trying not to wake her in the process…then all of the sudden it’s like a light from Heaven shines down when this perfect little creature’s mouth forms the slightest little smile!  In all likelihood, she probably did a little toot or something and that’s what caused the smile (ha!), but that’s not important!  If you don’t let out an audible “Awww…” when you see a sleeping baby smile, you might need to seek professional help!  Each time I capture one of these smiles in a photo, I feel like my heart expands slightly and that I’ve gained additional capability to love life just a bit more.  Yes, sleeping baby smiles make me feel like that; I don’t care if they were caused by gas!  😛

“There is such a special sweetness in being able to participate in creation.”  ~Pamela S. Nadav

Isn’t it amazing to think of being pregnant as taking part in “creation”?!?!  Two people, through their love, have created a life that will forever change their lives, those around them and the world.  It is no wonder that people are drawn to pregnant women and that an expectant mother is said to glow.  She is like a sunrise carrying the hope of a beautiful new day.  At the moment her child arrives, that baby is the newest part of creation and the most incredible thing she has ever seen.  Of course, everything that goes along with being pregnant isn’t always bright and shiny, but when you have an amazing, supportive partner by your side it certainly makes the entire experience so much better.  That is absolutely true for this gorgeous couple, who are expecting their first child and couldn’t be happier about it!  They are BOTH glowing!  You can clearly see how much he adores the beautiful mother of his child (and that the feeling is mutual).  So much excitement, hope and promise with this child on the way.  These fabulous parents (and I:-)) can’t wait to meet this precious new part of creation!

Merry Christmas and Happy New year!

So I’m about a two weeks late on the Christmas wishes and a couple of days shy of the new year, but who cares. HA!:-)I’m not one for cliche photo sets and such. I’m certainly not one for ‘props’. However, this year, with three little people around including my own and my sister’s two kiddos, how could I resist?

Well, that’s right. I could not let the year pass without a photograph of them all together around the Christmas tree in their pjs. Please forgive the sparse tree decor and the messy tree skirt. We had all gone to dinner with my parents and I thought, man, I’d love to get a pic of the kids by the tree when we get back home. I had no idea how it would turn out or if anyone would cooperate. I admit, I had zero expectations and was prepared to forget the whole thing at the first glimpse of a meltdown.

Got home, got the kids in some pajamas. Put the oldest and youngest sitting together and then planned on ‘planting’ our son in place. However, to all of our surprise, the little guy just walked up and pointed up at the tree. And just like that, in seriously less than a minute, we had the shot. I’m still in complete shock that it happened so flawlessly with no crying or any issues at all.

I could not have been more pleased with the end result of the image. I mean, a little one looking up and pointing which was not planned. One baby holding an ornament in hand…totally just happened, not planned. And the oldest, looking up with a big smile on his precious face. I mean, seriously. It could not have been better! I loved the color image, but there was something special about the b&w edit, so I’m showing you both.

In several of my posts, I have made no secret of the fact that I adore Organic Bloom frames!  I mean, seriously, could they be any more fabulous?!?!  Although they are works of art in their own right, they complement photos rather than overpower them, which I feel is incredibly important when framing your family’s images.  (Hopefully those images are ones that I took!  haha!  If not, however, your pictures still deserve lovely frames to make them all the more stunning.:-))   In addition to being a photographer, I have discovered I have a love for designing fun wall displays for your favorite photos!  Isn’t it amazing that today’s technology enables you to see exactly how your framed pictures will look on a wall in your home before you have ever even ordered a single print!  The display below is one I designed with photos of my beautiful sister and her family.  Wouldn’t you love a nursery and wall display like this?  Contact me and let’s see what we can come up with!

“In family life, love is the oil that eases friction, the cement that binds closer together, and the music that brings harmony.”  ~Friedrich Nietzche

I absolutely cannot look at this family without smiling and being filled with happiness at the love they have for each other.  This awesome mom and dad clearly adore each other as well as their two gorgeous daughters!  How could you NOT love these faces?!?!  You can clearly see the potential for lots of fun mischief all over these adorable sisters’ faces, but you just can’t help but love them!  I definitely have a special place in my heart for free-spirited little girls who know how to have a good time and that surely describes these two!  I’ve enjoyed getting to know them over the years, as I’ve been photographing big sister here since she was only one year old.  I have such a blast with this family and so enjoy photographing these cutie pies as they grow!  I am so thankful that I get to be surrounded by loving, happy families (including my own) and have the privilege of capturing special and beautiful moments of their lives for several years in a row now.  Let me know if you would like to start the new year off with some amazing photographs of your children with you like this!

Be sure to come back here often to see the many more new posts coming to the blog over the next few weeks.  I got to photograph so many families this holiday season and didn’t post most of those photographs because 1) I didn’t want to spoil any Christmas cards and 2) quite frankly, rather than posting, I wanted to focus more on getting galleries completed quickly, which will continue to be my #1 goal this year…getting galleries done faster.  Thank you to everyone for keeping me busy!  <3
