  • Hi. I'm Amy...a photographer here in Houston, Texas. Families, babies and children are what make my heart sing. I like to think I catch the divine in the ordinary using natural light and everyday settings. My style is pretty simple. It’s a dab of traditional (for my youngest clients) mixed with modern lifestyle portraiture, indoors and out. Candid shots are my favorite. I want to capture a child’s spirit and a family's personality, even if that's not traditional smiles. My #1 goal...to photograph families in real life, not something that was imagined or 'created'...to not just tell a story or get a certain 'shot', but to tell your story though a collection of photographs, capturing all the joy that fills your soul. The greatest satisfaction for me, is knowing when you look at these photographs years from now, they will radiate of all the splendor that your children have brought to your life and will offer an heirloom of memories for generations to come. If you want photographs that are a little different and are not afraid to let lose a little with your kids, then I most certainly am the photographer for you! Just click that little contact tab above and let's book your session. ;-)

This sweet girl I’ve photographed since she was just one year old.  Her momma was actually very pregnant with her baby brother when we first met.  It’s just incredible to see these kiddos grow up so quickly before our eyes!  It’s so much fun to get to see their personalities become so definitive and to watch them mature into little people.  Often times taking on many of their parents characteristics.  Such a fun job I have!  :-)

I thought this little poem was fitting.

You were six months old and full of fun; With a blink of an eye you were suddenly one; There were so many things we were going to do, But I turn my head and you were two.

At two you were still dependent on me, But independence took over when you were three; Your third birthday, another year I wished to ignore, But as I lit the candles there weren’t three but four.

Now your four, now ready for books and rules, in just one more year you will go to school; Time goes by so fast its hard to believe

So I am holding these moments as hard as I can,  In a twinkling, a woman will be standing there.

If you are looking for a newborn photographer in Houston Texas and you have found me here….welcome!  I think it’s important to know first off that I do not do the super posed, prop filled newborn sessions that seem to be very popular right not.  Although those images are very lovely, they are not the kinds of images that radiate with me.  I want images filled with a more organic and free flowing vibe.  Photos that are more simple and natural.  I mean no offense to anyone, but isn’t your baby fabulous enough on their own??  Such perfect skin and squishy faces…bright eyes and all.  Why distract from that kind of perfection???  Instead, I will help you celebrate those simple, yet amazing features that your newborn baby possesses.

While I make sure to get a nice collection of photos of the baby by themselves, I want to give new parents and siblings the opportunity to be in the photos with the baby.  For newborn sessions I really prefer to focus on the entire family.  Why you ask?  Well it’s pretty simple.  After a new baby arrives, I see it all the time….while there may be many photos taken of the baby by parents, and likely a lot of sibling photos if applicable, but there tends to be very few of the baby and their parents together.  I want to try and capture the excitement and the connections between parents and baby.  I admit, I focus on mommy and baby the most because the tendency is that mom is most often the one behind the camera as the children grow.

This collation of photographs gives you a great representation of what a typical newborn session looks like.  These are just a few of my faves, but I think you can get the idea of the kinds of photographs I offer.  If you like what you see, I can’t wait to hear from you!  ;-)

This was part two of a session I did months back that I forgot to share.  The sun was starting to come up and we had gotten a great selection of shots with the girls in their ‘Sunday’ dresses so why not shoot a few on the playground in more casual attire.  :-) I don’t think you can get much more real than this collection of images.  Just kids having fun.

I love shooting kids in their element.  Which in this case was the playground at a local park.  It posed a few challenges.  This particular morning, the park was pretty full of people.  Working around such can be complicated, particularly with very active subject, but I am always up to such a challenge.  hehe.  The challenge is completely worth it when you can get the most authentically joyful faces.  I mean, just look at these faces!  And who cares if there is some crazy hair going on in a few…ha!  This is real life folks.  Kids (and adults) have flyways…and for these photos especially, they are most fitting, in my opinion.  (case in point the last few images on the collage) Pretty darn cute, right?

So fun to get to watch these two grow up!  Can’t wait to see them again this Fall for family photos!

In the world of Houston Texas children’s photographers, I can safely say that I don’t know of anyone doing photographs like this underwater.  Quality images processed true to color, taken with professional level camera equipment and all.  When I had this idea of doing underwater kids photographs, I had no idea how much I would enjoy doing them.  I’m not going to lie, I’m not even really a ‘pool’ person.  I would and could never be considered even an avid swimmer.  I honestly don’t even much like being outside in the summer.  However, there is something nearly magical when I get into the pool with these kids.  And honestly, I had no idea that this kind of photography would sort of come so fluidly for me.  It’s not easy.  There is no one who could say that.  It’s hard…really hard for so many reasons.  However, for me, I’ve been fortunate to have ‘got it’ pretty quick.  Which really has like NEVER been the case for much of anything in my life besides maybe keeping a beat, which I’ve always been really good at.  ;-) Anyways, I’m so proud to have the opportunity to do these sessions and do them really well for my clients.  Of course, I am always striving to be better and be more adventurous with them too.

And I must note that I’ve been asked by so many people to offer these sessions with props and/or costumes.  That is something that I do not plan to offer now or at any point in the future. For some time, the goal of my business is to celebrate your child with minimal distractions. I will keep to this goal even with the underwater photography.  So unless Vogue magazine wants to hire me to create an underwater concept shoot (which is never going to happen so it’s safe to say such-ha!), I plan to continue to keep underwater sessions as simple as possible just like my regular photography sessions.

And now that I’ve rambled on, how about this fella!!??  Such a blast to photograph underwater!

As a family photographer in Houston, Texas, I get to meet some really awesome people.  I’ve been fortunate to have met and connected with a small group of ladies in my area who are also photographers.  This group has really been such a blessing for me as I transitioned into photography full time.  While there are many perks to this career path, working from home every single day has it’s challenges.  One of the main things I missed about my other career when I left was having the opportunity to chat with others in my field.  People to bounce idea off of or ask for help when I’ve hit a roadblock.  Those who truly understand what you might be going though because they have been there before you or may be going through something similar right now.  My sweet husband is so wonderful and supportive. And I have many friends who will always lend a listening ear, but I really feel like being able to openly talk to those who do what you do is the most helpful..because they ‘get it’.

Anyway, I was overjoyed recently to be hired by one of the wonderful ladies in that little circle of photographer friends.  I had never met her family, but they the most fun ever to work with!  I admit that older children intimidate me a little bit.  They tend to be more reserved and such.  Maybe a little at the very beginning this was the case, but quickly they opened up and really gave me more than I could ever have imagined!  Such vivacious energy and happy personalities.  To think that we nearly were rained out this particular night, but thankfully this family kept the faith and indeed the weather held out for us.  YAY!
