Houston Family Photographer | Houston Child Photographer | Baby Photographer Houston bio picture
  • Hi. I'm Amy...a photographer here in Houston, Texas. Families, babies and children are what make my heart sing. I like to think I catch the divine in the ordinary using natural light and everyday settings. My style is pretty simple. It’s a dab of traditional (for my youngest clients) mixed with modern lifestyle portraiture, indoors and out. Candid shots are my favorite. I want to capture a child’s spirit and a family's personality, even if that's not traditional smiles. My #1 goal...to photograph families in real life, not something that was imagined or 'created'...to not just tell a story or get a certain 'shot', but to tell your story though a collection of photographs, capturing all the joy that fills your soul. The greatest satisfaction for me, is knowing when you look at these photographs years from now, they will radiate of all the splendor that your children have brought to your life and will offer an heirloom of memories for generations to come. If you want photographs that are a little different and are not afraid to let lose a little with your kids, then I most certainly am the photographer for you! Just click that little contact tab above and let's book your session. ;-)

You would never know it by these photos, but it was pretty dark in this room, but when has that stopped me before? hehe  Okay, there have been a few times when there was just not enough light, but that is truly very rare. ;-)

This was just part of a session I recently did for the most lovely family.  This session was actually only for their beautiful daughter who was 10 months old.  Such a wonderful age.  Sitting up and crawling…not quite walking yet, but can pull themselves up and such.  I simply could not resist a few photographs in her adorable nursery.  Very simple, yet so wonderful.

I love this! I love how you capture such natural behavior with babies, in their own environment. I cant wait for Hudson to get a little bigger so you can come do his! I cant get enough of your work!

Love all the light in these pictures! And the kiddo is pretty cute too :)

If you have seen even a bit of my work, you will notice that I love full contrast images….images that are clean and timeless…images that look like your family.  In the abyss of photography, there are so many ‘styles’ of photography and within those styles is almost an endless variety of processing.  Many trends come and go, but what I strive to do is offer images that are true to life.  I like to keep whites white and blacks black.  Sure, depending on the light, there might be some slight variations….for example, when shooting in full sun, the skin and hair will reflect a much more golden hue to it, where as in shade, colors are much more cool.  But pretty much, I like to keep my processing pretty clean.

So if you love color and contrast images, I’m your girl. ;-)

This session was no exception.  I’ve had the honor to photograph this family since big sister (shown below) was only 1 year old…she is 4 now.  It is hard to believe it’s been that long since I met this family.  They hold a special place in my heart for sure!!  Being a part of many milestones since that first session.  Now their family of three is now four.  Two of the sweetest siblings, with such different, unique personalities.  It is so fun to see how even so different, they love each other so very much.  I love so many things about this family….one thing I love about this family is that every time I’ve ever photographed them, they are so accommodating and laid back.  This is likely because the nature of mom and dad is pretty chill.  It is so refreshing when a client fully trusts me and is always game for basically whatever tickles my fancy for our shoot.  In this case, it was going to the Orange Show, which is a quirky little place in Houston.  I first visited the Orange Show many years ago when I lived in town.  I always thought it would be fun to photograph a family there, but it never seemed to work out….until this year!  I was overjoyed when Mrs. G agreed to drag her family there for our session.  It is a bit out of the way, but they were game!  YAY!!  I thought it would be fun to do something different with them…since they are one of my favorite families. ;-)  Thank ya’ll so much for humoring me with this different location.  I love these pics so much it hurts!!!!

I had the privilege to photograph this sweet girl last year on her birthday….then this year when her baby brother was born and now to celebrate her 2nd birthday this year.  Last year we did outdoor photographs, but this year we wanted some in her beautiful bedroom.  This worked out perfectly because not only was it freezing cold outside the day of our session, it raining outside, too.  Basically the worst possible weather conditions for outdoor photos AND indoor photos.  Now, you would not know it from the photos that are shown her from this birthday girl’s session, but it was kinda dark in her room…darker than many photographers would venture to shoot in with only natural light…which means, without using a flash, or other artificial light source.  To achieve this, one has to know what they are doing with their camera and the reality is that the equipment matters too.  The camera that is being used must be able to handle a higher ISO setting and still render nicely colored images.  I know…likely too much professional photo talk for most of you, but all I’m saying is that indoor images can be tough to do well, so be sure that if you are looking for indoor photographs of your family or child, make sure that the photographer you are hiring has a pretty good portfolio of images in different indoor settings. ;-)  Which I think I do…so hire me.  hehe.  <3

What I love about this sweet girl is that she’ll give me an assortment of wonderful faces that showcase her personality.  And I can’t think of anything better than showcasing your child’s personality in photographs for you.

FUN session!

Family Photos Houston, TX

It was a very clear day and would have been the most perfect day, if it was not raining on and off.  I know many of my photographer friends had canceled sessions this very day, but this mom and I decided we would chance it.  Most of the time, I am game and very optimistic about the weather.  Most of the time, I know it has just been my very good luck, but most of the time, if my gut says to press on, we end up with a lovely window to shoot.  And this day was just such a day.  I kid you not….torrential down pouring most of the day….and as I was driving to this session, I could sense just a bit of clarity on the horizon.  And again, we got lucky with the most lovely light….and I got lucky with the most lovely family to photograph!  So easy and their sweet boys…oh, those sweet little boys!  Sure, the oldest made me work a little…or let’s say…run and chase him a bit, but just know that my patience is great and he warmed up to me within about 10 minutes or so and then the magic happened.

Just see for yourself!

Magic. <3

Baby Photographer Houston, TX

Is she the most precious baby or what??!!  We were documenting her 4 month milestone.  Her parents have this most fantastic chair in their bedroom and I could no resist putting little miss in it for some photos.  As is with babies her age, she loves to chew on her hand which is so adorable if you ask me.  You’ll be seeing more of this sweet girl soon!  Stay tuned!

I try to go outside my comfort zone at least for a few photos at each session.  Most often, I leave my comfort zone just on a whim….it is rarely planned.  I just see it and think…hmmmm….that will be cool and a little different.  And I get that often times being ‘different’ is really just being different for me because as with this photo…there are many dark shadow…faces are not really lit too much…it’s a bit more of a dramatic look…a little more edgy, I would say.  I just happened to be standing in the right place at the moment.  The original plan was to switch to my 50mm lens to get a more close up of the dad tossing up his daughter, but instead, I just peaked through my 28mm lens and decided to keep it a more wide shot and to not blow out the background to expose faces, (which is what I prefer to do and do a lot) instead, I would underexpose just a bit in order to get this look.  I really loved the look more than I expected and I will most certainly do more of (when the right opportunity presents itself) in the future.  What do you think?

Newborn In Home Photography Houston, TX

If you are on the fence about traditional newborn photography, then please consider an in home, lifestyle (or documentary style) photo session instead.  Forget about any props or elaborate set ups…and forget about the session that lasts 2-4 hours, which is common for those types of photographs.

Instead, think…one hour of your time, maybe an hour and a half, max….just you, your family and that precious new arrival in simple, more casual photographs.  Your baby can be brand new or several weeks old.  They can be awake the entire session or if they need a nap, we will get them sleeping.  Please note, that if you would possibly like some sleepy photos of your baby during our session, the best time to schedule your session is within 5 days of birth and even then, I can’t guarantee sleepy baby pics because it is not the goal of this style of photography.  However, in the first days after birth, babies are the most sleepy and will likely sleep more during our session and so the sooner we can book, the greater chance your baby will fall asleep on their own during our session.

There are a few options with these sessions:  1) we can get mostly family photographs and just a few of your baby by themselves.  2) more of the baby by themselves and just a couple of the whole family.  3) mostly the baby and a series of shots with just baby and sibling/siblings (parents don’t have to be in any of the photos)  The point is that the session can be tailored to you and what you want, all for the same price.  Or certainly if you don’t care about choosing, I’m happy to go with the flow once I’m at your home and I’ll surprise you with what I think is best. ;-)

And generally speaking, a one of these newborn sessions will look something like this one that I did recently. Here are a few of my favorites…I know…I have a lot of favorites. hehe

Love this lifestyle shoot! So sweet and natural :)

I have such admiration for newborn photographers, it’s such a hard skill to master and you did a great job!!

That one of the two kids together… Melt my heart!

As you probably know I am one of your biggest fans! When I get nervous before a session (every time) I come look at how effortless everything is in your sessions. You must be a joy to be around because people respond so well to you! I wish I could afford to travel to you for our family photos!

Gorgeous session–love all the details! The bw of the two sisters is perfect!

Amy Leigh

Jessica, it was most certainly my fave too!!! It was a moment that happened so fast and I was really lucky that I was really paying attention to capture it! You would not know it, but it was shot at like 6400 ISO because the room was so dark….hence the b&w processing was best suited. Thank you for stopping by my blog and commenting on my photography!! Your work is so lovely too! I enjoy following you!

Brittney

Love love love the sweet image of the siblings together! SO special!

Extended Family Portrait Session Houston, TX

It can be hard to get an extended family session organized.  It’s hard enough getting your family session scheduled sometimes, but then to throw in additional family members, well, it can be tough.  But trust me when I tell you that it is worth every bit of effort that is put forth.  I personally feel that the result of the many hours of getting everyone in one place for an hour….will be repaid ten fold once you see the images of everyone.  I feel so lucky to get to be a part of extended family sessions, especially when they include grandparents and grandchildren.  This day, I’m not going to lie, was bitter cold.  I think it was 38 degrees when we did this session.  Lucky for me, we had a lovely indoor space to do many of the pics, but this amazing crew braved the cold (in small increments-ha) in order for us to get some lovely outdoor pics too!  I think they will go down in history as the bravest family….everyone outside with smiles on their faces!  Most certainly it’s the coldest it has ever been for me….shooting outdoors, that is.  But hey, if you are game…I’m game.  I’ll even shoot a family in snow if I had the chance.  Actually, that would be fantastic and super fun!

Anyway….if you are lucky enough to have your parents still here with you, I would encourage you to consider having family portraits made with them!  You will not regret it!

I had so much fun with you guys!  Thank you for letting me spend some time with you and photograph ya’lls amazing family!!!

What a great idea including the whole extended family.

Couples Photographer Houston, TX

Thought I’d throw a curve ball and do an entire collage in b&w.  I thought it looked cool. hehe  But don’t worry…there is a color collage too. Full, bright color. ;-)

This couple was so easy to shoot.  They are getting married next month and I am so very excited.  I don’t take on many weddings a year because quite frankly being away from my family an entire day is not something I want to do on a regular basis.  But my goal is to photograph 3-5 weddings a year.  I think that is reasonable.  I prefer small events of 100 guests or less.  My own wedding was about 75 people….so I have a heart for intimate affairs.;-)  I know my portfolio of weddings is small, but if you’d like to consider me for your wedding, please contact me and we can chat to see if we are a good fit.

Or maybe you are having a destination wedding and just want engagement photos…??  I’m totally your girl!  I have photographed two couples for their engagement photos who were having destination weddings not photographed by me.  I love doing engagement photos even when I am not photographing the wedding.

Or maybe you are already married you want some anniversary photos or maybe it has been a few years since you and your hubby have had photos made professionally…??  Call me!
