  • I like to think I catch the divine in the ordinary using natural light and everyday settings. My style is pretty simple. It’s a dab of traditional studio (for my youngest clients) mixed with modern lifestyle portraiture. Candid shots are my favorite. I want to capture your child’s spirit and personality, even if that's not a traditional smile. Kid's are my specialty, but also enjoy capturing the entire family, from newborns to high school seniors. I shoot on location in Houston, Texas and surrounding areas. I'm from a small East Texas town and have hippy-like tendencies. After college, I ventured to the city, which is now 'home' and includes my husband and our doggies. Faith, family, friends, food, fashion and fabrics consume my mind when the shutter is not clicking. Custom photography is a luxury, but I promise it will be worth every penny. I look forward to sharing my love of photography with you and your family! {photo credit to urban grey photography}

Found: Turtle | Houston Photographer

We found a turtle in our yard.  We kept him and called him ours all for about one hour.  He was not our turtle for long. We offered him the most pristine, organic lettuce as we were certain he would chow down.  To our surprise, he (somewhat rudely) rejected it our hospitality.  Even though overall…

LOVE the turtle behind picture! Can I have one to put on my wall? I will pay for it!

Still Here…sort of. HA!

Dear blog, I promise I’ve not forgotten about you, although it would surely seem that way considering the lack of attention given to you in the last few weeks.  I assure you that my distance has nothing to do with you personally.  It’s all me.  I have a life outside of you that I had…

Ramblings | Thoughts on the Photography Biz

Just a few things that I believe. 1.  An expensive camera and/or equipment does not make you a good photographer.  Sure, there is no denying that it helps, but the fact remains that if I don’t shoot in full manual mode, all the time, then I will never be able to get the consistant quality…

This is EXACTLY what I needed to read today!! Thank you so much for posting. I’ve been feeling discouraged lately after seeing so many (good/great) photographers from my area post (good/great/amazing) photos. It sometimes makes me feel like I’m not worthy to have a business when there are newbies coming in and being awesome. But, just like you said, I should do it because it’s something I love! And it makes me happy..and glorifies God in that. Thank you. :)

Amy Leigh

I’m thrilled that you are encouraged! Keep the faith. These things take time to grow and develop. But eventually, it will all fall into place. It’s easy to be distracted by others and the community that tells you, ‘you must do this, this and this’. It’s so silly. Everyone has to find their own way. What works for some, wont work for others. Hope you continue to grow and love what you do!

Thank you so much for sharing your “ramblings”! This really struck a note with many of the thoughts I have going on in my head! I am so tired of feeling like I have to have all of this “junk” that is being marketed out there for photographers. I have went back and forth many times on whether or not to take the next step with my photography. I always hesitate because I don’t have the funds to buy all the super expensive equipment or attend all the fancy workshops. This post has reminded me take pictures because I love to. So..I will continue to push and challenge myself and one day, maybe I will make the decision to turn this love into something more. Thanks girl!

p.s. Are there really “pro’s” out there using Automatic? How boring is that?

Love this Amy :-) Very insightful.

Jodie

Thank you!!

Mr. C (me nephew) and his Mommy (my little sister) | Houston Children’s Photographer

I’m still here.  Just been very busy with so many things, personally and professionally.  All good, praise the Lord!  Blogging has taken a back seat, but will be more consistent again soon!  For now, a very large collage of my nephew and little sister. I love getting to photograph my nephew and this time I…

My Life

As I am driving home tonight, I am just in awe of the crazy sunset.  I mean, I know good and well that the vibrant and nearly piercing bright colors and light are pretty much from air pollution, but never-mind that.  It is a stunning sight.  I decided, since I had my camera with me…

Hair | My Life

Hair.  We love it and we hate it.  If we have straight hair we want it curly. If we have curly hair we want it straight.  If it’s brown we want it blonde.  If it’s blonde we want it brown. You would never believe, by looking at how much hair I have now, that my…

Amy- I think this is a lovely self-portrait! I love the angle that you went with, so much more unique than the usual straight forward self portrait. Oh, and it definitely showcases that beautiful head of hair that you have! Love it!

Okay… Totally cool looking and different necklaces! Thanks for sharing new businesses/ blogs with us! I think keeping a blog of memories is an awesome idea. It amazes me how much I cannot remember from my first born already.

Dallas T

What beautiful work!

Darlynn Schoppe

I love the birthstone necklace idea, and I have been shopping around for one that catches my eye for almost six years now. This is the first one that has really caught my eye. I love the way the two colors of my children’s birthstones would look that close together.

Amanda

Would love a mama bird nest necklace. Mine would include three little eggs- two wonderful boys and a sweet little girl.

Cute giveaway, Amy. I love the charcoal cowl on her etsy page. It was nice of you to feature this lovely woman. Good luck to everyone.

My Life | North Houston Photographer

It’s 50 degrees out today.  Better light the fireplace, baby it’s cold outside.  Okay, I know what you are thinking, but we are in Texas.  HA! Today was bath day at our house.  Baths are not so fun especially when you have almost constant matted, tangled hair, but it’s a small price to pay when…
